Lent 2023 day 47
Happy Easter!!
Hey, I had a new thought!!!
When Jesus went into the tomb we have to presume He went in naked and wrapped in a shroud. We know there was no time to properly prepare Him before sabbath began. Maybe He was washed a little. But would the disciples have had something to dress Him in once He was taken down from the cross? Maybe. Perhaps a burial shroud was all that was deemed necessary in those days? Why bother dressing someone for their burial?
Anyhow, it seems likely to me that on Easter Sunday morning the resurrected Jesus didn't have anything to wear!!! And this is the thought that struck me. Back in the garden of Eden, Adam was naked. When Adam sinned God killed an animal to provide skins to cover Adams nakedness, of which he was now shamefully aware. Thus began the notion of animal sacrifice to cover sin. I'm sure that Adam wasn't destined to be naked forever. Had he not eaten the forbidden fruit he would eventually have made himself clothes to keep warm and protect his body as he worked in the garden. But his sin required God's emergency intervention. God decided to cover Adam's shame and guilt. Because He loved Adam. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice who never sinned. When Jesus rose He was naked and not ashamed!! He was as Adam had been before he fell. I believe God provided Jesus with clothes to wear (or Mary would have had a bit of a shock) but they were garments of righteousness, not to cover sin. New clothes. With which we too are now entitled to be clothed, if we just ask.
Good eh?
Have a fabulous day and thank so much for joining me this Lent. Xxx
