A..super..annoying..thing..has..happened..to..my..laptop.
Can..you..guess..what..it..is?
Thespacebarhasstoppedworking.(The..space..bar..has..stopped..working!)
Which..is..going..to..make..it..a..very..long..winded..exercise..to..write..the..blog..today.because..the..only..way..I..can..think..of..to..write..it..is..to..use..dots..instead..of..spaces.
Ooooooh so I just took the cover thingy off the space bar key and discovered that I can make it work by hitting it quite hard (sometimes twice) Which is an improvement on dots. But not much of an improvement!
As ever, I look at the unusual happenings in my day and wonder what God might have to say about them. What is He saying about spaces? In particular the spaces between the words? I dont suppose I have ever really had much cause to consider the spaces until all of a sudden my space bar stopped working and all my sentences came out as one long word! And you would think perhaps the human brain could decipher things regardless, butitisactuallyalotharderthanyouwouldthink. (Spell checker doesnt like it either! 😁) The spaces which we utterly disregard and dont ever consider when we are reading are actually what make sense of the text. The absence of letters gives meaning to the letters which are present.
Two thoughts come to mind: firstly, sometimes God seems to go quiet on us, especially when we are really looking to Him for some specific direction or answer. But maybe His silence is just the space between the words. Perhaps we need the gaps in order to make sense of the whole? Secondly, and Im definitely talking to myself here, there is value in leaving room between words. Im really bad at leaving space in conversations for other people to speak. If there is silence for any length of time, I fill it. But often the silent moments, the pauses, the breathing spaces are where the breakthroughs/revelations/confessions/eureka moments happen. The gaps give permission for those who are shy or hesitant to join the conversation and perhaps take it in new and unexpected directions.
So let's not be afraid of the spaces between God's words, or our own. And lets hope I can get my spacebar fixed easily and quickly because it took me forever to type this!!! 😂
